BASIC POWERBOAT CRUISING COURSE
Lessons are semi-private to provide maximum helm time and offered weekdays and weekends to accommodate your schedule.
Basic Powerboat Course Package: includes instructor reviews, self study and four “on the water” lessons. Practical skills learned include powerboat theory, safety, systems, close quarters maneuvers, fairway maneuvering, person in water rescue, docking & departing, bow first and stern first in a slip, weather, navigation aid and rules, line handling, knots, emergency procedures, open water exercises and anchoring procedures. Graduates can obtain their Basic Powerboat Cruising certification and California Boater Card.
Basic Powerboat Lesson 1 – Close Quarter Maneuvers: On the water instruction for close quarter maneuvering. Practical skills learned include powerboat theory, safety, systems, pivot point, turns and stoping the boat in close quarters.
Basic Powerboat Lesson 2 – Fairway Maneuvering: On the water instruction for fairway maneuvering. Practical skills learned include, rules of the road in main fairways, backing the boat, pivot turns, person in water recovery, bow first and stern first in slip.
Basic Powerboat Lesson 3 – Docking & Departing: On the water instruction for docking and departing. Practical skills learned include dock line and fender management, prepare for arrival, approaches to docks and piers and spring line departures.
Basic Powerboat Lesson 4 – Open Water & Anchoring: On the water instruction for open water and anchoring exercises. Practical skills learned include navigation systems, trim the boat, underway in waves, high speed maneuvers, person in water recovery and anchoring.
Graduates can obtain the following certifications (exam required). Self study may take longer to complete written exams. Certification, course materials, fuel and marina tax not included.
